Once the officials arrived at the scene, they found a 16 -year -old victim, later identified as Eractte Jeffrey, as “unconscious and insensitive with a gunshot wound in the head,” said the NYPD in a statement.

Jeffrey was transported to Lincoln Hospital, where she was later declared dead, Tisch said.

“He should be at home right now with his family, but instead we are talking about another child victim of armed violence,” Tisch said.

The video recovered from the school showed a group of children who left the courtyard of the school and enter a catwalk next to the building, when a fight broke out, authorities said.

A 14 -year -old man who wore a t -shirt and white shorts was beaten in the face by another man, who later proceeded to hit other people in the crowd, police said.

Someone gave a gun to the 14 -year -old, who later proceeded to run to the man who attacked him, authorities said. The teenager then fired three rounds of shooting at the crowd, authorities said.

In the video images, Jeffrey is seen riding from the courtyard of the school to the catwalk in a scooter, police said. She “does not participate in the fight”, but approaches another man on the edge of the group who “tries to stop her behind a brick wall to collect,” the authorities said.

Despite the efforts of the man to protect her, Jeffrey was shot in the head and immediately fell to the ground, the police said.

Jeffrey, who had just turned 16 this month, was a student at the nearby Morris Secondary School, authorities said. His grandmother told the ABC station in New York Wabc that she “will never forgive” the alleged shooter or any person involved in the death of her granddaughter.

On Tuesday, the 14 -year -old shooter was arrested by the police on Tuesday, according to Wabc.

“You can say that you feel it a million times, I will never forgive you, none of you,” said the grandmother.

Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson said Jeffrey’s mother is “absolutely incolable.”

“He received the worst phone call that no father should receive, that his son was shot while he was here in a recreation courtyard after school,” Gibson said during the press conference on Monday night. “We have just recognized Mother’s Day yesterday, and now this mother has lost her son. This is a father who will never be the same.”

Tisch said that victims of shots under 18 increased 200% in the BRONX in 2024 compared to 2018.

“These are babies who kill babies and have to stop,” Tisch said.

Mayor Eric Adams, who was also at the incident scene on Monday talking with worried journalists and parents, described the loss as an “unimaginable tragedy” in x.

“I don’t even know what to say when a shooting like this occurs,” Adams said in X. “Parents must continue doing everything in our power to ensure that our children cannot access weapons.”
